Winter Activities in Colorado

Summit County, Colorado is one of the best winter destinations in the nation! There is so much to do in the winter months here in the beautiful rocky mountains. From sleigh rides, to dog sledding, snow tubing, and everything in between, this blog is about the most popular family friendly winter activities in Colorado you are sure not to forget! Make lasting memories inside a beautiful winter wonderland when you visit Summit County!

Snow Tubing 

There are quite a few places for snow tubing in Summit County. First there is the Frisco Adventure Park, home to many activities less than a mile away from Frisco Main Street. The tubing hill has several different lanes, each with a different experience. The hill is accessed by a surface lift, so no walking uphill is required! You can also find tubing hills at both Keystone Resort & Copper Mountain. Keystone’s Tubing Hill gives you a unique tubing experience because it sits at the Summit of Keystone Resort. Your tubing pass will include a ride up the gondola to the top of the ski resort, where your snow tubing experience awaits you. Copper Mountain’s tubing hill consists of several lanes, each with banked turns that will leave you smiling from ear to ear from the whole way down.  Tickets must be purchased online prior to arriving at the tubing hill. Sledding Hills

Sledding is a great way to get the whole family together and outside for some fun in the sun! Maryland Creek Park is Silverthorne's largest park, boasting over 20 acres, and is located at the entrance to the Summit Sky Ranch neighborhood along Highway 9. In the winter, enjoy the impressive sledding hill and warming shelter with restrooms.  

Sledding is also available at Rainbow Park in Silverthorne. This is a fun little hill that also includes a playground, public restrooms, and 3 picnic pavilions to sit down and relax while you watch everyone sled down the hill! 

Another great area for sledding in Summit County is Dillon Town Park! Located next to the Dillon Marina, this sledding hill overlooks Lake Dillon and boasts gorgeous mountain views. There is a playground available here as well.

Sledding is also available at the Frisco Adventure Park! This sledding hill is not maintained, so it is for use at your own risk. Park at the Nordic Center at the Frisco Adventure Park and follow signs for “Walkway to Sledding Hill”. Open daily from 9 am to Dusk. 

The best part about these sledding hills is that they are absolutely FREE! Bring your own sled and enjoy the ride! Sleds are not available for rent at these locations. Sleds are available to be purchased at most grocery stores and gas stations around the county. They are also available at Target in Silverthorne, or Wal-Mart in Frisco. 

Winter Sleigh Rides

Go dashing through the snow on a scenic Colorado, horse-drawn sleigh ride. Both Keystone Resort and Breckenridge Resort offer both Scenic & Dinner Sleigh Rides. Your guide will take you on a tour of the beautiful rocky mountains and stop at a beautiful location to be served hot chocolate or cider, or if you're doing the dinner sleigh ride – DINNER! These activities are for all ages and are truly a magical experience you won't want to miss.

Ice Skating

Ice Skating is a fun activity that the whole family can enjoy! Keystone Lake at Lakeside Village in Keystone offers ice skating, skate rentals, training accessories, and hockey equipment rentals. Come skate and shoot some pucks around! Open until 9 pm daily, this is a great activity for any time of the day!

Dercum Square in Keystone also offers ice skating and skate rentals. There is a playground for the kids to enjoy, as well as a small snack bar. Open from 1 pm to 8 pm daily.

Depending on the time of winter, Ice Skating is also available on Dillon Reservoir at the Dillon Marina. The community ice skating rink is maintained by the town of Dillon and is open from sun up to sun down. Skate rentals, training equipment, and hockey equipment are also available for rent. The opening date for 2024 is still to be announced. Copper Mountain offers Ice Skating in Center Village. Grab your skates and gather your family for a game of ice hockey on West Lake! Skate rentals are available, and hockey equipment is available for free. Open daily from 11 am to 9 pm, weather permitting. For more information please visit →

Copper Mountain Coaster 

Copper Mountain’s Rocky Mountain Coaster is open for the 2024 winter season from 11 am to 4 pm daily, weather permitting. Cruise through the forest and enjoy gorgeous mountain views as you fly down Copper Mountain on this sit-down coaster. The Rocky Mountain Coaster is one of America’s longest mountain coasters with 5,800 ft of track and speeds that reach about 25 miles per hour! For more information & tickets please visit →

Dog Sledding

Experience Colorado like you’ve never seen it before with a dog sledding tour at Good Times Adventure Company. An unforgettable experience as you will mush your group of Siberian Huskies as you slide through the rocky mountains. Each trip will begin with the local, experienced guides that will explain how to run the sled and work with the Huskies. Tours can fit up to 6 people, and everyone will alternate running the sled and being a passenger on the sled. This is a unique and thrilling experience you will never forget!
